Besides trying to translate the text/AIM talk, he says “...also has a Corvette ship in the computer that gives you the extra 25 horsepower very fast rides very smooth.” If ship = chip, to my knowledge, getting hp isn’t that easy, right?

Gaining hp can be that easy. Same engine for.more ho rather then torque. Or upping boost

He may have just unplugged the FuelShark.

Yep, it's that easy. If I were to pay renntech $2000 I could give my car another 135 hp and 155 tq.!

Depends. If you plugged a Silverado ECU into a Duramax Express van, you’d get muct more power because it’s the same engine but detuned for cooling reasons.

If you plugged the ECU from a 5.3 Silverado into my Colorado, I’d probably gain a little bit, but since the cam is different it would never match the Silverado’s HP.

The real question here is how does this guy know I have a 97 Tahoe?!

Or as the FP said, unplugged his cell phone, turned off the lights, and turned off the A/C.

Huh, curious. I wonder if that’s possible with GM’s 3800 engine then...

96 Impala is naturally aspirated. No boost. A dyno tune session with a program put on a chip and piggybacked onto the ECU would probably gain that amount of power. An off the shelf one? Doubtful.

No. Corvette’s never had the 3800, so no Corvette ECU is going to do jack. Or chips designed for a Corvette. I actually doubt they would even work. If they did work at all they would probably do more harm than good.

But with this Impala, yes it’s possible. It’s a detuned ‘vette engine.

Historically accurate auto correct? Corvette is a type of ship after all.

Yes. It’s quite possible. That car has an LT1, the same as Corvettes of the era. But it was detuned, probably for reliability/comfort. It’s not difficult to make them fast. I’d try to find a wagon, though.

The vast majority of that gain is likely to be from timing advance and fuel trim changes...oh yeah, the car now requires premium. It’s the same way the Conforti chips in the older BMW ECUs got you 15-20hp, by tuning for premium and *maybe* dialing in a bit for an intake or exhaust. Maybe.
